Thank you, that was very helpful. I just wonder how it would go if i took my two cats hiking. Probably I'd need a second person to join me…
Have you ever taken your car on overnight trips? I'd love to take my cats camping and hiking for a week or two some time.

I recommend on training the cat off-leash as well, being on leash is too restricting on the long run. Cats can't climb & run freely in a leash. I trained my 2 cats to walk on a 8 meter leash first, then to follow off-leash…we do that for almost 9 years. Of course for off-leash hiking it should be a natural & calm area and the cats need to be trained more intensely in general. Regardless of what is happening, they need to come to the owner, see that person as a safe space…but in general they need to be trained not to spook (run off), when scary stuff happens (dogs come, loud noises etc.). That's more work, but is 100% worth it & the cat can enjoy the hike fully free.
