Horse Vote September 7, 2006

From The Gonzo blog from a heads up from Bridalpath blog ..

It seems the House will vote on H.R. 503, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, on or around Sept. 7.

After the July 27 Agriculture Committee hearing, which moved the bill forward to the House floor with a recommendation “not to pass,” it should be interesting to see whether the bill passes or not

The version of the bill, including amendments, agreed to by the committee can be found here.

The Bark `N’ Blog also posts about this vote ..

More than 30,000 of America’s wild horses are living in Government holding facilities. That is more than what remains in the wild. More than 8000 of those horses in captivity are threatened with slaughter due to the “sale authority” legislation introduced by Montana Senator Conrad Burns in the fall of 2004. In 2005, 41 wild horses were slaughtered and shipped overseas where they are considered a delicacy. We must remove the threat of slaughter so that we can focus on long term solutions that protect the freedom and habitat of America’s last wild horse herds.
