In this video, Natasha does some basic in-hand training with her youngest friesian stallion Ebony Park Jorrit. The first thing is to get the rein back, as we walk towards the horse we want them to begin the rein back.
The second exercise is for the horse to go around Natasha using only his quarters and keep the front legs essentially in the one spot. Hold the reins in one hand a certain way is important so that you can apply either more inside or outside rein or both equally.
And the final exercise is getting the horse to move his entire body. That is shoulders and quarters.
We hope you enjoyed this video. Please Subscribe if you’d like to see more training videos. Natasha is on the horse for the others giving training tips and advice. Until next time, happy riding 🙂

Could you incorporate these same methods with a yearling who isn't yet bitted? I show him in hand but need something to help him show his natural pace and ensure suppleness

Thanks for the video. Sometimes when I insist like you are doing with that horse I feel like I am being mean like I should just take it slower and wait but by the same token I feel like they kind of know what I want and are ignoring me so I feel insisting is necessary. Do you have any advice or thoughts about that? I would love to hear.Â
Thanks again for this video and all your others!

Haha – yes this was just before we had the arena fence replaced… the posts weren't sunk into the ground far enough, so every time it rained they tipped a bit further over… 🙂

Looks like your fence has seen better days
