All over the world people identify turtles with Earth. Turtle shells have thirteen major plates—and thirteen is the maximum number of new moons we see in a year. This book invites you to record nature observations according to moon-based increments of the seasons. Are you interested in weather events? Garden milestones? Wildlife appearances? Make notes about whatever you want to refer back to in future years. Different peoples call lunar months by different names, depending on where they live and what they care about. The month names used here refer to seasonal features of some North America latitudes. They might not apply to you—or you might have better ideas. Feel free to rename your lunar months according to what marks that time of year for you.
