Free Hunting Dog Training Videos – Willow Creek Kennels

I just found this pet related video on YouTube … and thought you might enjoy it!

https://youtube.com/watch?v=7Z73wq6E8u0%3Ff%3Dvideos%26app%3Dyoutube_gdata

Using pigeons as positive reinforcement we start training Rooster to be steady to wing. We have found this method of training is easy on young dogs, and makes introducing the “Whoa” command fun for the dog.

What do you think?

How old was that dog or how old do you recommend to start intro to birds. Thanks very much for taking the time to put this out. I really appreciate it.

Rooster is 5 months old in this video. We start as early as 8 weeks with this process, but be sure the bird flies away from the dog to stimulate prey drive and not fear.

this is kind of a dumb question, but how are you keeping him from focusing on all of the birds at your side? They are at his level, and I know that my GSP always seems to be more interested in the bag full of birds than the one in my hand. Also, what kind of training did you do before you introduced him to this traing, and do you have that training on youtube? I really appreciate the helpful videos

Dogs are preditors, and preditors see movement very well. If you watch closely, when Rooster is coming back, I use a flick of the wrist to simulate a wing on a string, to stimulate pointing instinct. Rooster did not need any training for this session. We will have other videos up soon. We are trying to make one a month. Good luck.
