I love the term forever home, I got a dog 2 years ago from the local shelter, she had been abused and yes she is in her forever home and I love her to pieces.

i think its just the fur. my dog used to look fat too. even wen i went to the pet store the person there said he was fat. but i shaved my dog in the summer..
and my dog is so muscley and i could see his ribs. so the dog may just appear fat cause of his fur.
