Reward Offered For Info On Car Wash Duck Killer

CAMPBELL, Calif. – A California community is outraged over the intentional killing of 10 ducks at a car wash. The killings were caught on tape.
Employees and customers at the Delta Queen car wash cannot understand why someone would attack the ducks, which live in a pond there.
“It’s totally senseless,” said customer Michael Howell. “The ducks are out here just to provide enjoyment and fun for the kids when they come down here, and then you get some sicko like this.”
Surveillance cameras were running nine days ago when a young man in a red car went on a 16-minute midnight rampage, swerving into groups of ducks and running them over.
The worst of the footage is too graphic to broadcast.
The suspect, described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, even got out and grabbed some of the ducks. Authorities said 10 of them died. Police released the videotape in hopes of finding the killer.
“This is a felony,” said Campbell police spokesman Russ Patterson. “It’s animal cruelty, and the penalty is up to three years in prison and a $20,000 fine.”
The ducks are considered pets by car wash workers. They’ve been living on the property for 30 years, and are an attraction for customers. About 15 remain.
Employees say it appears the attacker came to the car wash specifically targeting the ducks. They are not aware of any disgruntled workers, customers or anyone else with a motive.
A roughly $8,500 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest. Crime Stoppers, the Humane Society of the United States and customers of the Delta Queen Classic Car Wash contributed to the fund.
