Pitbull Puppies

By Kent Pinkerton

Pit bull puppies are adorable like any other puppy and are in great demand for adoption. These puppies may be of a variety of colors-black, white, beige, grey, even the rarer merle and silver and fetch a high price in the market. Puppies with red noses are also in great demand. Most often, pit bulls are bred to produce puppies with qualities that may be desired.

It is advisable to adopt a pit bull in the puppy stage, as it then grows up with you. As a result, it ends up being more loyal as you may be its only master. Pit bulls may have their particular traits, which define their breed, but a puppy can be trained so that negative traits like aggression may be subdued. A pit bull that has been at your home since it was a puppy is more a part of your home.

Training is an important issue when it comes to pit bull puppies and it takes a lot of effort, but consistent and affectionate training will succeed. Pit bull puppies are known to have weak bladders and the initial few months will require it to be taken out every hour.

Training a pit bull puppy can be fun. Driving and tracking can be entertaining for both pit bull as well as the owner. More importantly, working together with the puppy on training creates a stronger bond. This doesn’t happen when training an adult pit bull. Pit bull puppies can be made to respond to verbal commands like ‘go’, ‘fetch’, ‘heel’ etc. They can be made to recall to their names. Here again there is an advantage over adults as you can teach puppy your own language and give a name of your own.

However, there are problems with puppies also. One is the difficulty in housebreaking. The teething period is another. Pit bulls puppies will chew anything, even hands and legs, so better keep kids out of reach of teething pit bull puppies. Pit bull puppies are also moody during this period and are more difficult to train.

When you adopt a pit bull puppy, you do not know what it will turn out to be. It has not yet developed its personal traits. But with proper training and lots of love, pit bull puppies can be made into good dogs.

I just got a 11 week old puppy and i absolutely love her. Growing up I had a pit bull and she was also very sweet. It makes me sick to hear about BSL and people mistreating their animals. Any breed of dog can be dangerous but it is up to the owner to teach the dog right from wrong. Pit Bulls make amazing companions and are the most loving dog I know. I would trust my baby with my life!!

I am not sure where this article came from but it sure is not correct. As a pitbull kennel owner and breeder of over 20 years, there are sevreal things in this article that are not correct at all.

1st of all there is no such thing as a Merle pitbull. Pitbulls do not carry the Merle trait. So if a dog is a Merle it is NOT a pitbull, but rather some mixed breed.

The comment about a pitbull puppy chewing is far out there. Pitbulls are just like any other puppy out there. All puppies chew!

Well, I’m not a breed expert despite all the sites out there like http://pitbullregistry.com/merle%20pitbull%20pictures.htm that show these type of pitbulls ..

Write a new article! Send it to me and I’ll post it here!

And, yes .. a lot of puppies chew.

How about this. I own a merle pitbull and I can tell you that he is MERLE. I have researched the genetics of merle in pitbulls and have found the merle in my pitbull comes from the New Orleans Catahoula Leopard dog which has been in America the longest of any dog. It is believed that pitbulls when brought to the United States in the 1800’s were bred with the Catahoula. And btw leopard means merle. SO if ANYONE wants to say my 9 month old pitbull, which is registered with APBR(American Pit Bull Registry), is not a MERLE then what pitbull is. And for anyone says my dog is not a pitbull, consider the fact that it has been over 100 years sense his Catahoula ancestors and he has pitbull parents. I am MOSTLY polish but im also 1/64 Maori so I consider myself caucasion but I have cousins, aunts, and uncles in New Zealand that are pure Maori and are definitly not caucasion. Me, like my pitbull, have ancestors from different areas of the world but the fact is im polish/maori caucasion and my dog is a merle/brindle pitbull. Anyone is welcome to e-mail me if they would like to see pictures of my 55lb PITBULL. Thank You
P.S. Lol if pitbulls like to chew then thats another aspect of my dog, chewed up hundred dollar pair of shoes, that relates to pitbulls and ALL other dogs.

I have a 3-year old light brown merle pitbull. She was given to us for FREE at age 6 month, the leftover puppy no one wanted.
I also think that she is mixed with the Catahoula leopard dog. They told us she is a “pure” blue merle pitbull (I guess some people will say anything to get rid of a “proplem”). I have had 2 pitbulls bevore and this dog differs wildly in behavior. She has strong herding instincts and is a very good guard dog. Talking about a herding dog in a “pitbull outfit”. But does any of this really matter? First of all she is a DOG, our pet which we love very much and she is for all I can tell a very happy “dog”!

I am far from a breeder and I will be the first to admit that I have a lot to learn when it comes to the history of this breed, but in my opinion I disagree with the focus on adopting puppies, there are just as many adult dogs that are just as likely to adapt to a new home, and be just as loyal.

Hi I am a dog breeder and I think that a merle pitbull might be a throw back bloodline, Im not for sure but I believe so, I only breed razor’s Edge and Gottiline Bloodlines. But do your research and find out for sure.
