A tribute to Katrina Animal Rescue….. Especially those volunteering at Camp Katrina, located in Tylertown, MS. and those working at the Winn Dixie in downtown New Orleans. The pictures of the dogs in the water came from various associated press releases after the hurricane. Those pictures were what made me decide to head down to help. Myself, two other technicians and a veterinarian from where I work all headed down, not knowing what we’d find. We arrived just as the camp was getting started. We were the first medical team in the camp. There were people from all walks of life, all races, all religion, all political views. It didn’t matter…we were all there for one goal: To rescue and save the animals who fell victim to Hurricane Katrina. The other pictures in the clip were taken by various volunteers in the camp: Lisa & Tammy, Chuck, Carebear, Gonzo, Kimmy and myself. If you see this video and find one of your pictures here and I haven’t credited you, please leave me a comment and I’ll make sure you get the credit you so richly deserve. The song is by the country band “Sugarland” and called “Stand Back Up”. I heard it for the first time after arriving home from Tylertown. It reminded me so much of what these animals went through I cried. I knew I would one day make a video using the song. After all they’d been through…once rescued and given the medical attention they needed they stood back up and were happy as could be. So…this is also a tribute to the resilience

Please … If you think this video is not appropriate nor related to pet adoption and rescue .. please let HART know via the Contact form. Thank-You

I cry every time I think about the scenario of people having to leave their pets. I was not far from Katrina; I live in Baton Rouge. Some people stayed because they would NOT (absolutely refused) leave their loved animals and make them endure such suffering alone. Unfortunately, a few died in such ways. I thank anyone and everyone who helped rescue all the pets of Katrina; and hopefully Gustav doesn’t hurt as much as Katrina.

We were fortunate enough to adopt a Katrina Rescue, and Argentine Mastiff, Max. He was so ill when we adopted but with the compassion shown by Dr. Karen and 11th Hour Rescue, he’s a happy and healthy boy. He’s brought so much joy to our lives, he’s gained 30lbs, and gets his daily hugs and kisses, I am so grateful that I have been given the opprotunity to be his caretaker for the rest of his life.

My God, this is one of the most moving films on Youtube.
Thankyou so much for bringing to the world this.
    Damn people who mistreat animals.
    Poor little darlings…….
God bless the people who helped these animals.
    I hate you George Bush.

Thank you…your video brought tears, and, yet, hope to me at the same time. Let the people NEVER allow the damn government to make them leave their animal’s behind EVER again. I would never abandon a creature who trusted, and needed me…

great video. whenever there’s a natural disaster, they never talk about the animals that were killed and injured and left behind in the news. They forget about these animals that suffered what the humans suffered, too. Its just touching and beautiful when volunteers and animal rescuers risk their lives to save those that can’t save themselves. Thanks for the video.

I would Never leave my animals behind. I would do anything for them. Even if they said I couldnt take them with. I would find a way to take them. So Whoever said you werent aloud to take them… Think…If you loved your pets as much as I do or others do. You would find a way.

I would never leave my dog behind. He was in this disaster as a 26 day-old puppy and we adopted him. He is a water dog but hates water after what happened to him there. I will NEVER leave my Rudy behind!

@happymike44 These SOB’s at Camp Katrina are the ones that stole my dog my neighbor saw them take his collar off and throw his tags down! They called themselves the rouge rescuers. Most of the dogs the took from homes were never seen again and they never kept track of them. I heard those people at CAMPKATRINA were all doing drugs and having sex these were a bunch of those radicals that thought they could come to New Orleans and do whatever the hell they wanted!! We will never see our boy again!
