Frank has learnt it now thanks to you! However, instead of putting his head
at the same height as Alfie or Callie, he puts it right up and pokes his
nose in the air! lol! Any idea on how to stop this? Thanks :)

My horse, Bailey’s, mouth never really got messed with. She rides in a
hackamore (Bitless bridle) and was trained not to take treats from your
hand, as not to encourage the biting habit. But my problem is i really want
to teach her to smile, but I don’t want to undo the expensive training that
was put into her by previous owners so she wouldn’t bite. Plus she is and
ornery and has very little patience. Do you have a solution?:) Thanks xx

It’s actually so they can close their nostrils off so their Jacobson’s
organ can take in more sensory information. Smiling basically “activates”
    an extra nose!!

My horse never twitches her lip when I tickle it 🙁 Any other ways?

  41. Firelover
    | Reply

yes but if they do without a command you should just ignore him so he
knows: if she doesn’t ask it I won’t get a treat. and than most of the
    horses just quit with it.

I’ve been using this method to teach my horse to smile, and he can do it
but never really holds his lip up, like Alfies doing in the thumbnail he
just keeps moving it? Haha any tips to get him to hold the smile?

I can’t get any of my horses to move their top lip 🙁 I spent about five
minutes with each of them tickling all round their top lip and they
wouldn’t move it an inch! Not even a little twitch or anything. And it’s
not the horses, because I tried it with all four of them! I must be doing
something wrong but I don’t know what. Any tips, PLEASE?
