Davie · They took to the catwalk sporting offerings from a new clothing line.

They didn’t have a care in the world as they wagged their tails and panted before about 600 people. No, this wasn’t your average fashion show.

The canine fashion show was part of the Free Friday Nights summer series at the Young at Art Children’s Museum. The dogs, pets of Target employees, wore items from the store’s new canine clothing line.

“This is a great way to show it off,” said Rhonda Hooper of Fort Lauderdale, store team leader for Target’s Pembroke Pines location.

Hooper’s dog Bailey, a Doberman pinscher, modeled red sunglasses and matching red raincoat, an ensemble dubbed “Outward Hound.”

At one point, children laughed as a dog sporting a red shirt and a beige skirt zipped down one of the museum’s sliding boards, then ran up the stairs to do the trick again.

Children at the event also enjoyed art activities, the museum’s galleries and a make-your-own-sundae station.

“There’s a lot to do here and a lot to see,” said Toni Friedman of Coral Springs, who brought daughters Ashley, 10, and Katie, 6. The Free Friday Nights series features a special activity and free admission to the museum.

“We appreciate that we can open our doors to children who might not have the opportunity to come here otherwise,” said Mindy Shrago of Hollywood, the museum’s executive director.

Keith Maxwell of Miami brought his two sons, David, 5, and Joshua, 6.

“This is our first time here and they love it,” he said. “I can already see that when it’s time to leave, it’s going to be a battle.”

Michelle Clayton of Sunrise said her daughters — Abigail, 4, Emily, 2, and Jessica, 8 months — enjoyed themselves.

“Next time we’ll come back as paying customers,” she said.

The fashion show ran in conjunction with the museum’s latest exhibit, “Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog,” which runs through Sept. 11.

The next Free Friday Night is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.Aug. 26. The museum is at 11584 W. State Road 84.
