my dog gets hives after being bitten by mosquitos. I used benadryl (pills) and anti-itch cream on the hives and she gets better within 3 hours. Swelling and redness disappears. The hard part is keeping her from scratching which the hives bigger. It takes about 3 days for her to come back to normal. Try to keep her mind off of the itching by giving them something they can chew on while the meds kick in. Good luck sleeping, just happen again and lost tons of sleep keeping her from scratching

My 25 lb Boston Terrier had broken out ALL OVER in whelps & was very swollen and warm in the middle of the night. I gave him a bath to soothe it & wash off any contaminants & gave him Benadryl but within 20 minutes he vomited. I took him to the vet early this morning & he said it was a severe allergic reaction to something ingested & are pretty sure that it was from a bee sting. They gave him an allergy med shot & said to immediately start giving him 25 mg (1 mg per lb) of Benadryl every 8 hrs.

He has slept most of the day since the shot and Benadryl but he is not scratching now and the whelps have gone down a lot (about half way or more). The vet said that this time of year (fall) bees and wasps are laying in the yard because they are sluggish instead of flying off like they do in the summer so it is easier for pets to step on them and get stung.

my dog broke out in hives biggg time today 🙁 so scary. her eyes were so swollen that they were shut. we were in the woods this afternoon..must have been a spider, yikes! Benadryl did not work, just made her drowsy. I took her to the vet tonight and they gave her a shot that did work, $150 later.
