Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs

I´m only in it for the candyEaster isn’t just fun for children and candy addicted adults. When is the last time you held an Easter egg hunt specifically for your dog? If your answer is ‘never,’ it’s time you properly introduced your pet to this traditional Easter activity by preparing treat filled eggs especially for them.

First, you will need to buy the extra large plastic eggs so you reduce the chance of your dog trying to eat the plastic. However, you can avoid using the egg containers all together if your pooch tends to destroy everything that comes in contact with its mouth. But if you decide to use the eggs, you can stuff it with all sorts of goodies.

Since it’s a special occasion, select treats that are colorful and aromatic. For example, try Newman’s Own Organic Peanut Butter Treats or stop by your local pet store or barkery and pick up bunny or chick shaped cookies. Another option is to bake homemade dog treats so you can frost them and cut them in any shape you desire. If you opt out on using the plastic eggs, your dog will still enjoy searching for the tasty treats. Just try to hide them in a sneakier fashion, or you can make it more competitive by inviting some of the neighborhood dogs over too.

There are also annual Easter egg hunts for dogs that you can attend if you would rather see how well your dog does at sniffing out the snacks. Animall’s 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs will be held Saturday, April 11 from 10 am to 12 pm at Crowder District Park in North Carolina. The Montgomery County Humane Society will have their egg hunt on the same day from 10 am to 11 am at The Posh Pooch in Bethesda, Maryland. Also, if you reside in Canada, the National Service Dogs (NSD) will be having various egg hunts in different parks of Ontario.

Dogs yearn to be included, so when you have your annual egg hunt for your children, don’t forget to surprise your pet with some personalized eggs too.
