Dog training tip: connecting with your dog.

I just found this pet related video on YouTube … and thought you might enjoy it!

Using food provides a great introduction for a dog to learning and shaping behaviors. However, it is easy to get caught in the trap of bribing a dog with food to get them to listen to you. Connecting with a dog with an enthusiastic attitude while using a variety of rewards will allow you to teach them with or without food…the fun for the dog comes from engaging with their parent…and not simply from what’s in their pocket. I personally prefer to start teaching a new behavior with food, and then quickly change the reward to a toy or a game or some sort. Once a dog and their human learn to communicate with each other, amazing things are guaranteed to happen. What is your dog’s favorite game???

What do you think?

Excellent vid. true dogs become conditioned too enjoy working for you through the rewards you use. I use a combination of rewards and use food in many dif ways. Working for their food is my dogs job, they dont need it, but i like to use it as it helps provide them with plenty of feel good factors throughout the day. Food is also an imp tool to help suppress adrenaline release and calm a dog. Food is an invaluable tool to aid in in maintaining emotional stability in your dog.

@MultiAnimalcrackers I agree. It is a much more soothing reward than a game of tug, which is usually more arousing for most dogs.

I cool video that I would like to see is how you get your dog to jump over you when you crouch down.
