Slimy, slithering, wriggly creatures can make interesting pets, and there are so many different ones to choose from. Veiled chameleons are lime green and fit on your finger when they are babies. Geckos, Dragons, Monitor and Jeweled Lacerta are some common lizards. Or you can choose various colored snakes that wouldn’t mind wrapping their bodies around you.
The Tucson Reptile and Amphibian Show and Sale will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday, Sept. 28 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Tucson Expo Center in Arizona. At this event, you can simply view or go a step further and purchase these reptiles and amphibians.
They will have tortoises, snakes, lizards, frogs and turtles. There will also be displays of venomous reptiles, rattlesnakes native to Arizona and even alligators. An advantage is that you will be purchasing these creatures from reputable breeders. In addition, reptile lecture presentations will be given throughout the show. So if you walk in not knowing anything about having reptiles and/or amphibians as pets, you might walk out with the knowledge to take care of the new family member you just purchased.
Who knows, a reptile/amphibian show might change the way you view these creatures. This week a mom, Sue Ritchie, found the courage to get over her fear of reptiles while at a reptile show held at the Ogden Legion in Calgary, Canada. In this instance, it goes to show that facing your fear head on might help you out in the long run. Apparently, Ritchie was persuaded into holding a corn snake, which ended up not being as bad as she thought.
It’s possible that attending a reptile/amphibian show might help you get over fears of those creepy crawling critters. You might discover a suppressed love for an iguana, snake or lizard or maybe you have always known that this is the type of pet for you.

My 9 yr old son would love this! He keeps frogs (African clawed ones) and fish – though separately, because the frogs will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. He really wants turtles, as well.
Has to be said, though: I’m not that keen. Fish, reptiles and amphibians are just not … cuddly enough.
