Grace, form, hard work, showmanship typically describe Canada’s top athletes. This weekend, those words will describe a special group of top dogs featured on the Purina Show of Champions, airing on TSN Saturday, February 9th at 1:00 pm EST and Sunday, February 10th at 11:30 am EST.
The Purina Show of Champions, Canada’s largest Dog Show, will showcase the Canadian and International dogs chosen to represent the best of their breeds. Similar to other international televised dog shows, such as the US’s Westminster and England’s Crufts, the Purina Show of Champions will bring a premium dog show to Canadians in their homes.
“People have a sense of pride and thrill at seeing a dog similar to their own awarded a grand honour on a national stage,” says Lauralee Camilleri, Manager of Breeder Services for Nestlé Purina PetCare. “This is what makes televised dog shows like the Purina Show of Champions so interesting and magnetic to so many outside of the traditional dog show community.”
Part one of the Purina Show of Champions, airing on TSN Saturday, February 9th at 1:00 pm EST will feature the winners in four categories: the Herding Group, Toy Group, Working Group and Non-Sporting Group.
Part two of the Purina Show of Champions, airing on TSN Sunday, February 10th at 11:30 am EST will feature the winners in 3 categories: the Sporting Group, Terrier Group, and Hound Group. Winners from all seven groups will then compete for the Best in Show, top dog show honours.
Dogs in each category represent the judge’s picks among the over 6,000 dogs and 155 different breeds who entered the show.
Throughout the year, Purina supports the dog training, field trial and dog show community. Thirty-nine of the top 50 dog show handlers in Canada feed and recommend Purina products. At the 2007 Westminster, 6 of the 7 Group winners, including the Best In Show, were fed Purina(R) Pro Plan(R) brand dog food.
