Learn more about clicker training and Ygritte’s story here: http://ferrets.positive-pets.co.uk/

Clicker training is so much more than just a fun way to teach tricks, it is also a hugely effective way of resolving behaviour problems in any species of animal – ferrets included!

Ygritte was handed to a ferret rescue having been found as a stray. Whenever anyone tried to handle her she was biting and holding on for minutes at a time, the video shows her biting the glove before we started training with her.

We used clicker training to begin working on the aggression.

Clicker training was chosen as the way resolve this behaviour as it has the most benefit for the least harm.

Apologies for the first half of the video, it is not nice to see her in a situation where she feels the need to bite and will not do her progress any good.

Hi I've rescued an 8 week – 12 week old ferret from a breeder of hunting ferrets. She was being kept in a filthy dark shed in a filthy dark box, she does allow me to pick her up but her first reaction is to bite HARD to the point of drawing blood. I'm hoping to get some Advice please.

Me: (Ferret lover snob) – sees this videos title – comes over – ….wtf are these people doing to have seriously aggressive ferrets lol – sees first few seconds "Rescue ferret" oh…oh no. oh shit. now i feel aweful. can't really blame the ferret. this is sad :/… ive never had issues with ferrets via aggression. They might play rough sometimes but its nothing serious they dont latch on or act like this they are playing and testing, normal ferret behavior. Much fun in my book. and if my ferrets got a little too bitey a simple YEeeeow! and they'd stop and lick it like Oh shit im sorry i thought this was play i didnt wanna hurt yew weak hooman skin! lmao. thank you for being a good ferret justice warrior!

Hey thank you for your video ! Im considering on getting a ferret from this pet shop, he's really aggressive and I feel he's under a lot of stress. He bit me really bad yesterday and I'm wondering if it's advisable to get such an aggressive ferret? He's been in the shop for 7 months and no one wants him as he is too aggressive. I would like to work with him but I also have a few pets like a kitten, python, dragon and chameleon. Do you think it's safe to get him?

IVE HAD FERRETS FOR OVER 40 YEARS. ON AND OFF. DONT TEASE HER WITH A GLOVE GRIP HER UNDER THE NECK AND SMOOTH HER ON THE TOP OF HER HEAD AS MUCH AS YOU WANT SHE CANT BITE YOU. THE ONE JILL I HAD MOLLY WAS RIGHT NASTY FERRET LIKE YOU I COULDENT PICK HER UP WITH OUT A GLOVE ON. AND I HAD HER FROM WORKING STOCK BUT SHE WASENT HANDELED MUCH JUST LEFT IN A CAGE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS WITH OUT A GLOVE I HAD HER SITTING ON MY LAP. THEY GOT VERY BAD EYE SIGHT BECAUSE SHE WAS A WORKER. AND NEVER BEEN USE TO HUMANS HANDLING HER. AS SOON AS SHE FELT THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF MY ARMS SHE WOULD LOCK ON TO ME. I USED TO JUST OPEN HER HER MOUTH GENTLE WITH TWO FINGERS AND TELL HER NO NAUGHTY. UP UNTIL SHE DIED ABOUT EIGHT WHAT A GREAT PET SHE MADE CLEANER THAN ANY ANIMAL IVE EVER OWNED BEFORE. BUY THEM AS BABYS HANDLE THEM OFTEN AND YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THEM BITING YOU GREAT PETS HIGHLY RECOMEDED. FORGOT TO SAY MOLLY WAS TWO YEARS OLD WHEN I HAD HER. SO CAN BE TRAINED NO PROBS THERE.

Hello I just got a new Ferret and she’ll randomly hiss at me and come up to me and bite me, whenever she does that or does anything else that’s bad I’ll scruff her and tap her nose and she’ll hiss at me more and bite me more. Did I buy an aggressive ferret? I bought her so I could have a play mate for my other ferret who isn’t aggressive at all and she’ll chase him and bite him till he shrieks, I can’t tell if she’s trying to be play ful or not but I don’t know what to do

I have a ferret who loves biting me every chance she gets, her bite is playful but when I scruff her it just makes her more aggressive. I will try this with treats. Hard to believe her cute little fuzz butt can deliver such a bite.

AWESOME work you are doing with her. It is so wonderful to see her getting the training and attention she so desperately needs that will hopefully increase her chances of being adopted. Thank you so much for putting the time into her. I look forward to future updates! 🙂

Wow, she was really holding on for a long time! It was really cool to see a before and after video though, she has improved a lot so far! I'm sure she'll be a real sweetheart once she learns to trust people. <3
