What did he do that was wrong? True, some expert village tips are nonsense, but this video seemed fine.

I’m sure the dog knows the command sit, but the guy was talking to the camera, so couldn’t say “Sit”

The dog is fine. If he didn’t give a shit he would probably not be regarding a single word that guy said, an he did in fact accomplish the task.

I don’t understand how it was misleading. He is showing you how to make your dog stay in the sit position.

Why does he not ask his dog to sit? Keeps pushing on it’s butt..you’d think a ‘dog trainer’ would be able to have their dog sit on command.
When training stay you don’t want to jump straight into walking in circles around your dog..if they don’t know what the command means that’s going to confuse the dog. This dog obviously wasn’t ready for those large circles yet or he wouldn’t have broke stay.

You could build up to circling your dog but when your teaching the meaning of the command start by just walking back a couple of inches and reward very quickly.

If that’s the case he should teach his dog to sit using a hand signal, because forcing his ‘trained’ dog into a sit just makes him look like he has no idea what he’s doing. Stopping what he was saying for a couple seconds to say ‘sit’ (a trained dog would respond immediately) and then continue talking would have looked more professional.

I would like some info on how to teach dogs to not eat and drag shoes or slippers around the house.

@truthseeker5276 just leave the slipper on the floor and if they grab it say something quick like”Ah!” to distract them. Keep doing that and if it doesn’t work thn get someone to hide behind a wall with pans and bang them but not look the dog in the eyes, or it will associate the person with fear and will fear them. If thy don’t work then tell me.

@MegadrixfireZ then put a treat on its nose and hold it there. Step back with the treat in your hand and say “stay”. Give it the treat when it stays there and u can walk back.

Jim is one of the good trainers from the expertvillage!! Some of the other videos are just shocking but his ones are always useful!

I love it how he uses a verbal correction in his demonstration but does not talk about that in his explanation. Plus he can’t get the dog to do anything without touching it. I would like to see his best trained dog, and how long it took him to get to that level.

@dogwhisperer2 I don’t think you know what force training or aversive tension is. Or we use a very different vocabulary.

But you are right that this training method is quite novice.
