Animal-friendly Mother’s Day Weekend

How are you celebrating this Mother’s Day? Well, if you don’t have any ideas yet, consider treating your mom to an animal-friendly weekend. There are so many ways you can share this day with your mom. Maybe you will decide to take her to the zoo or buy your mom a pet of her very own.

When is the last time you and your mom took a field trip to the zoo? If images of yourself in grade school come to mind, then you might want to refresh those memories. Many zoos are featuring Mother’s Day themed events this weekend. For example, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is providing chair massages, make-up demonstrations, hair consultations and more on Sunday, May 10. On the same day, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be hosting a Mother’s Day Breakfast from 8:30 to 10 am. Remember, all moms need to be pampered and entertained on their special day.

If exotic animals are not your mom’s cup of tea, consider treating her to a dog show. From May 9-10, the Scott County Kennel Club will be sponsoring an American Kennel Club Dog Show in Rock Island, IL. The show will take place at the QCCA Expo Center and will begin both days at 8:30 am. Events include a Puppy Spectacular, Celebration of Veterans, and Obedience, Rally and Agility competitions.

Another way to bring a smile to your mom’s face is to surprise her with a pet that she has always wanted (just be sure that she really wants a pet). The Will County Humane Society is having a Spring Adopt-A-Thon, Plant Sale and More on May 9 from noon to 4:30 pm at the Shelter Grounds in Shorewood, IL. Or take your mom to a local shelter where she can pick out her new dog or cat. If your mom already has a pet, treat both of them to a free grooming session.

Bonding over pets or exotic animals is a fun way to celebrate Mother’s Day, and it will create memories that the two of you will never forget.
